When I decided that I wanted to live in Korea, I really did not know what to expect. Moving far away from one's native country can be very scary. I had done it before, but in Europe, which is very similar to my native Canada. I had never known anyone, personally, who had lived in Korea, but I had difficulty finding anyone with anything negative to say about the country. In fact, most Western teachers love Korea as a place to live and work. I had also researched other countries in Asia and the Middle East, and finally decided to make Korea my home. I am very happy with my decision.

나는 한국에서 살기로 결심했을 때, 무엇을 기대해야 할 지 몰랐다. 한 나라로부터 멀리 떨어져 이동하는 것은 매우 두려움이 될 수 있다. 이전에 유럽에서 있었던 나의 생활은 우리 캐나다와 매우 비슷했다. 나는 개인적으로 한국에 아는 사람이 아무도 없었지만, 한국에 관해 부정적인 면을 찾아볼 수 없었다. 사실 대부분 외국인 교사들은 직장으로서 한국을 선호한다. 나는 동남아시아 지역에 다른 나라들을 찾아보았지만 마침내 한국으로 결정했고 지금은 내 결정에 매우 행복하다. 

I have been here almost 6 months now, and finally feel as though I am settled in. In the beginning, it was a little stressful because everything is new, and my senses felt overloaded. I had a new home, a new city, a new job, new friends, new colleagues, new food, a new climate to adapt to, and a new culture to embrace. I feel very lucky. Gyeryong is a very quiet and safe city. The people are very kind, and it feels like everyone on Geumam knows who I am, which is comforting when I am so far away from home. I love teaching at Geumam Elementary School because my colleagues and students are so kind and caring. I feel like I am in a very safe place, and that the people around me genuinely care about my happiness and well-being. I look forward to getting to know everyone better every day, and to seeing more of this beautiful country.

나는 한국에 온지 6개월 되었고, 마침내 정착한 느낌이다. 처음에는 모든 것이 새롭고, 내 느낌은 매우 부담스러웠기 때문에 약간의 스트레스를 받았다. 나는 새 집, 새로운 집, 새로운 친구들과 동료들을 만났고, 낯선 음식, 새로운 기후, 새로운 문화에 대해 적응해야 했다. 나에게는 계룡지역이 매우 조용하고 안전한 도시여서 매우 행운이란 느낌이 든다. 금암초등학교에서 나를 만난 모든 사람들은 매우 친절하다. 그것이 멀리 고향을 떠나온 내게는 편안함을 주었다. 나는 금암초등학교에서 학생들을 가르치는 것을 좋아한다. 왜냐하면 나의 동료들과 학생들이 매우 친절하며 잘 돌보아주기 때문이다. 나는 매우 안전한 장소에서 살고있고 나의 행복과 진정으로 잘 지내도록 도와주고 있다. 나는 이 아름다운 나라를 더 많이 볼 수 있고, 모든 사람과 더불어 하루하루 더 나아지기를 학수고대한다.
